Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty (also known as eye lid surgery or surgical eye rejuvenation) is a procedure that helps to revitalise the appearance of ageing eyes. A signature procedure by Mr Bhagwat Mathur, this procedure is performed at Kirbha Clinic’s London and Essex locations.

The eyes are often the first area of the face to show signs of ageing or fatigue and patients seek blepharoplasty for a range of functional and aesthetic reasons. These include drooping upper eyelids, excess skin that can make the eyes appear tired or heavy, puffiness or bulging caused by prominent fat pads, and loose lower eyelid skin resulting in fine lines or shadows. In some cases, excess upper eyelid skin may interfere with vision, making surgical correction both a cosmetic and functional procedure. Eye rejuvenation can restore a more alert, rested appearance while maintaining natural expression.

Blepharoplasty requires a refined understanding of eyelid anatomy and facial balance. Following a detailed consultation, Mr Mathur assesses levels of skin laxity, muscle tone, fat distribution and symmetry before recommending upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or a combined approach.

The procedure involves precise removal of excess skin and fat, with incisions carefully placed within natural eyelid creases to minimise visible scarring. Surgery is typically performed under local anaesthetic with or without sedation as a day case. General anaesthetic may also be a choice. Mr Mathur’s extensive experience ensures a conservative, tailored approach that rejuvenates the eyes without altering their natural character.

Frequently asked questions

The aim is to rejuvenate, not alter, your natural eye shape. Mr Mathur takes a measured approach, focusing on restoring youthful contours while preserving individual facial character.

Discomfort is usually mild and well controlled with prescribed pain relief. Swelling and tightness are expected initially but settle as healing progresses.

Blepharoplasty results are long-lasting. While ageing continues, many patients enjoy the benefits for 10 years or more, depending on skin quality and lifestyle factors.

There may be bruising and swelling during the first 1-2 weeks. Patients are advised to rest, avoid strenuous activity, and follow specific eye care instructions to support healing.

The eyelids are delicate and highly visible. Mr Mathur’s decades of surgical experience in head and neck surgery ensures precise technique, safe tissue handling, and outcomes that are both aesthetically refined and functionally sound.

Your journey begins with an in-depth consultation with Mr Mathur, where your concerns, expectations and eyelid anatomy are carefully assessed. A personalised surgical plan is created and explained in detail, including recovery and aftercare. Surgery is performed in a safe and friendly setting, with follow-up appointments arranged to monitor healing and results.
